POSITION:                             Middle School Social Studies Teacher

REPORTS TO:                         Principal          

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:      10-month

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under direction, to teach and instruct pupils in grades 6 through 8 in middle school social studies academic subject matter, social, behavioral, and other educational skill areas; to plan, develop, organize, and conduct a comprehensive educational program for middle school level social studies pupils and to do other related functions as required.

 

DUTIES:

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Principles, theories, methods, techniques, and strategies of teaching and instruction of middle school level pupils; academic, social, and behavioral characteristics of middle school level pupils; educational curriculum and instructional goals and objectives; and educational trends and research findings about comprehensive middle school programming; behavior management and behavior shaping strategies, techniques, and methods, and conflict resolution procedures; socio-economic and cultural background differences of the school population.

 

ABILITY TO:

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling and significant fine finger dexterity. The job generally requires sitting, walking, and standing. It is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the occasional exertion of up to 20 pounds of force and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.

 

 

Certificates & Licenses: Must have a Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree. Must have or be qualified to hold an NC teaching license in science and Social Studies (grades 6-8)or be willing to seek a provisional license. 

 

Continuing Education/Training      Maintain Licensure & CEUs
